Yo yo, trying to get into the groove of working from home with a baby as my wife returns to work, the hot start the New York Yankees are off to, and tax season. Took a break last week to enjoy Easter with my family. Last week’s Five Fits With featured Garrett Leight—son of Larry Leight, one of the co-founders of Oliver Peoples—who owns an eponymous eyewear label you’ve probably heard of. We discussed his father’s influence on him and his company, how to choose the right eyewear, and much more. He was a good dude with down-to-earth style that I think most folks can get into. This week, I sat down with Ian Ginoza, creative director of OTW by Vans, and he’s opened many illustrious stores (Kicks/HI, Saint Alfred) and worked for some of the biggest footwear brands in the world (Converse, Nike and Adidas) helming their collaborations and special projects. I really enjoyed Ian’s clean style, and he busted out some pieces for the real menswear heads.
Beet and Carrot Salad over Garlicky Labneh - Made this last Sunday and what a perfect dish it is. Comes together really easily and tastes as good as anything I’ve had in a restaurant if not better.
Feni’s Amaro Spritz - I don’t have a recipe to give you here, but I’m not strict. My friend James originally made this for me last year, and I’ve been tweaking different versions of it since. Right now, I pour a shot or so of amaro over ice, half a can of lemon Spindrift, peel some lemon or orange, and swirl it a bit till it’s all chilled.
Roc Marciano’s Marciology - I could recommend Vampire Weekend’s Only God Was Above Us or Mount Kimbie’s The Sunset Violent, both of which are excellent an heavily in rotation since Friday, but Roc’s new album is worth a shout. If you’re into grimy NY hip-hop and minimal, aggressive beats a la Mobb Deep, this is for you.
